20 March 2016: Emotional Selling in Skopje, Macedonia

(Sorry for the blur! Need to fix the camera)

(SKOPJE, MACEDONIA) – For 5 hours on a Sunday in Skopje at the new Impact Hub Skopje, we ran a workshop on Emotional Selling. I was amazed to see 17 people show up! My friends and I directly only knew 5 of the 17 people, so the fact that 12 strangers showed up on a Sunday for 5 hours to take this course really made me proud.

I took the framework and drills from ESD and applied them to sales, because, after all, sales is just humans exchanging with other humans. A few days before the event, I wasn’t sure how it was going to go. However, the night before, the day’s outline became very clear to me and I became very excited.

Most of the participants were from Macedonia, with a few I believe from Croatia – side note, I’m glad I have this forum now so that I have a place to post this stuff before I forget! And also for people to correct me if I make mistakes  As always, when I do the drills, I give people the opportunity to speak in their native language if they choose, because emotions often hit us harder in our own language.

Three things that happened left a very strong impression on me:

  1. My colleague said to me, “Jim, I’ve taken Emotional Self-Defense a few times and I had no idea how you were going to adapt it for sales. But you did a really really really good job, man.”

  2. A few people actually made sales on the project and many exchanged business cards.

  3. A woman asked me, “So where do you live in Skopje?” And I replied, “I don’t live in Skopje, I just arrived here about 6 days ago.” To which she exclaimed, “You don’t??? I thought you lived here for a long time. You just seem so comfortable with the culture.”
